Do I want it?

If what I want is to win,
Then I need to commit.
I believe that I can,
But-that my current game’s shit.

I put myself in position,
To see where I stand.
And i got what i asked for;
Brendan’s Hand.

I put up a fight.
And I learned what I need.
I now know the steps;
The path to succeed.

And, it starts with health;
My physical side.
My body was failing.
My brain had lied.

I believed in my story
That i was ready.
But, as it turns out,
B’s far more steady.

It’ll take some time,
But I’ll try again.
I now know where I stand,
And i Believe I can win.

It may not happen next time.
But, I do have the game.
Not to see this through
Would be a shame.

So I’m putting it out there.
You may call me crazy.
And, if I never beat B,
It’s cause I’m just too damn lazy.

That I won’t do what it takes
To-raise my-level of play;
Embracing the challenge,
Or walkkng away.

Head Space

Here’s what it is.
I’m gunna make somethin great happen.
Textbook.
Fluid.
Stayin down and through it.

The best I can today.
Right now.

I don’t always have my best stuff
But I’m damn sure gunna do the best with what I got.

And, I’m gunna shake off the shit that I got; that I can. Right now.

You see.
The space I’ve got here, is mine.
My mind. My body. Mine.
We know how to get it done.

It’s been a matter of giving myself permission.
A matter of allowing myself to do what I can.

The Feeling is

The Feeling Is amazing,
But you’re saying it’s not.
I hear you complaining.
Like, our house is too hot!

But, things are perfect;
Just as they should be.
If you’re not happy
You should change how you see.

The world won’t change
But You can change You;
The way you think
And what you do.

So get a grip
And get with what’s real.
The place to start
Is with the way that you feel.

Then, notice your thinking;
How you react to your feeling.
This is awareness
You may find your ceiling.

Limitations are learned
And they’re also self taught.
Seeking comfort is key
And where most folks are caught.

See, you’ve always a choice
To change your mind.
Try, This is just right, more,
And see what you find.

Act Now

Where will thinking take you?
Where do you want to go?
Do you have a vision?
Just start with what you know.

Then you look for answers.
You learn along the way.
Committed with a purpose.
Growing every day.

Make action your priority.
Practice what you read.
Books can bring you knowledge
But they’re just like a seed.

Vulnerability

Lighten up and laugh at yourself.
Therein lies a key.
There’s a ceiling to your growth
If you take yourself too seriously.

Dare to take your guard down;
A better way to be.
You’ll find the same in others;
Vulnerability.

That’s the way to peace.
The same place you’ll find joy.
It’s what I lost, long ago,
When I was just a boy.

We learn as we go.

You know what’s not working,
And you think you know why.
So you make some adjustments.
Which you’re eager to try.

You’re mostly self taught,
But you’re wanting to learn.
You’re just not quite sure
Which way you should turn.

There is no wrong answer.
But please, keep YOUR head.
You won’t have the answers
From all the books that you’ve read.

Others opinions?
Their “facts” and advice?
Grain of salt, friends.
I won’t say it twice.

Give yourself credit.
You’ll find the way.
Believe in your progress.
That’s all I will say.

Emotional Intelligence

I have a feeling that comes from within, along with a situation; an external happening.
And, so i label it in my mind.

This is the simple reality; that we have feeling with experience.

And yet, we’ve failed to educate and to understand ourselves with this truth.

Imagine that you walk outside in a t-shirt. It’s 20 degrees and windy.
Your hands begin to feel cold and they soon begin to sting. Same with your cheeks and ears and other exposed parts.

What happens in your mind?
“This is awful!” Right?
We label our experience as good or bad, and our level of comfort has a lot to do with it.

Take now for example that you’ve stepped onto a tennis court for match, or that you’ve sat down at a desk for a pop quiz.
You feel “butterflies” in your stomach.
“I’m nervous”, you tell yourself.
“What if I lose?” “What if I fail?”
Your mind can quickly run away to a place that doesn’t serve you.

The point is, we’ve not been taught the importance of knowing ourselves.
We’re not good at recognizing, and understanding our feelings and emotions.
And, we don’t know how best to deal with them.

Next time you’re in a situation of discomfort, try paying attention to how your mind responds to your feelings.
Pay attention to the negative thinking that your mind so naturally creates.

If you can do this, and you can, try rewriting the script with positive thinking. Come up with another perspective that paints the situation and the other(s) involved in a more positive light.

Your cold hands are a feeling you’re having. It’s not “awful”, and it’s just temporary. If you were to think of the feeling as “amazing” and a gift that you’re having the experience… I’m certain the situation will be more tolerable.

The tennis match or pop quiz?
“This is exciting”.
“These feelings I’m having is my body preparing itself for success”. “I got this”.

What a different reality we can create for ourselves.

Unfortunately, most of us believe the story we tell ourselves.
“That person made me mad”.
“Of course I feel this way”.
“Who wouldn’t”?
“It’s their fault”.
“I have every right now to behave however I will, out of emotion and anger”.

Sound familiar?
Emotional intelligence.
That’s what we’re talking about here, but the thinking, study and understanding, and writing about it is limited.
And certainly, its place within our formal education is lacking and I’d argue there’s nothing more important.

That We’re Here

If your energy’s tied
To all the wrong things,
Then you’re out of touch
With all that life brings.

Connect with the earth.
And get to know love.
That He loves us
Is the gift from above.

That you have life
And are here with me.
That we have breath.
That we can see.

That we can touch.
That we can smell.
That we’ve been told
Of Heaven and Hell.

That we wake up
Each day from Dreams.
That we may question
The way life seems.

Our place and time
Will have an end.

It Melts Away

Know that I’m Aware.
Where not, please know I Care.

The issues are so many.
Just so much I can see.

But, I walk, to take my Time.
I slow-down with a Rhyme.
Con si der ing
The life around me.
Thankful for this time.

I’ll often seek the Hawk.
I’ll sometimes find her Feather.
Just my time, just for a Walk.
Just me within the Weather.

Lovely is the sunshine.
I too enjoy the Rain.
Always tied to suffering
And managing our Pain.

And I’ve found that it’s O.K.
To just enjoy the Day.
To leave things as they are:
That Bullshit melts Away.
